The zones and ticket prices for Joensuu region public transport, JOJO, will change in June. The regional public transport committee approved the new ticket and zone system in its meeting on February 18.
- The number of zones will decrease from eight to four, making travel and ticket selection simpler. The new zones and ticket products are easier to understand and more affordable for most passengers, says Joensuu city traffic system engineer Rasmus Nousiainen.
In the reform, Zone A will expand to include Lehmo, Ylämylly, Reijola, and Niittylahti areas. Zone B will expand to include Viinijärvi, Kiihtelysvaara, and Eno areas. The current Zones C and D will merge. The combined zone will extend to places like Outokumpu, Uimaharju, and Tohmajärvi. Zones E and F will also merge, extending to Ilomantsi, Kitee, and Lieksa. The Joensuu city center City zone will be removed.
- The new zone boundaries will be easier to understand, and within the same zone, you can travel a longer distance. Previously, for example, a two-zone ticket was needed to travel from Niittylahti to Joensuu city center. After the reform, the inner Zone A will cover the journey from Niittylahti to Ylämylly. We believe the reform will increase the number of passengers even more, Nousiainen continues.
A map illustrating the new zones, which will take effect in June, is available.
